Dunolly residents have to be quick if they want to register for a free connection to high-speed Internet.
Infrastructure provider Opticomm is progressing works to install fibre to the premises (FTTP) across the township, and residents have until 15 December to connect free of charge. Service provider fees are additional.
Opticomm says on their website that fibre offers higher speeds, greater capacity and more connections.
"A full-fibre network can potentially deliver an impressive 1Gbp of information per second, and the rapid advances in network infrastructure technologies offer a potential pathway to accelerate this," the company says.
"Often, it's what we call the last mile or the access that limits the ability to experience the benefits of fibre."
Opticomm was awarded funding from the Victorian Government's Connecting Victoria program to roll-out fibre in Dunolly.
Central Goldfields Shire Council has been strongly advocating for better connectivity across the region.
CEO Peter Harriott said the project offers benefits for businesses, residents and potential growth.
"Families can have multiple devices connected to the Internet, meaning that mum and dad can watch different streaming services while the kids are studying," he said.
"Businesses and service providers will benefit from high-speed video communications, while access to fibre will encourage new residents to the township who want to work from home and enjoy everything that Dunolly has to offer."
