Noosa Council is set to fast-track payments to local suppliers in an effort to inject much needed funds into the local economy as the COVID-19 pandemic impacts the shire.
Environment and Sustainable Development Director Kim Rawlings said council would commit to a weekly payment cycle for local and regional suppliers to assist cash-flow.
"We are certainly aware of the financial impact and challenges as a result of COVID-19 pandemic, so this change to our payment cycle will go some way to help local suppliers,
"Council works with many local and regional suppliers and injects millions of dollars into the local economy, so we are encouraging our local and regional suppliers to submit their invoices so we can promptly process payments," she said.
"This weekly payment cycle will remain in place for an indefinite period." Ms Rawlings said.
Fast tracking payments is among of a number of business support initiatives being implemented to assist local business sector.
Council's Economic Development team has established a round table discussion with Tourism Noosa and local business associations to discuss an economic recovery plan for COVID-19. The groups will meet on Friday morning.
"This will be an opportunity to reinforce that we are in this together and need to consider all options to support our business community," Ms Rawlings said.
Community Services Director Kerri Contini said Council officers are making it easier for local eateries and restaurants to adapt their current licence conditions to offer takeaways and home deliveries.
"Given the circumstances, there's no need for existing food license premises to fill out forms or pay any fees, if they wish to offer takeaways and deliveries,"
"We obviously ask they practice good hygiene and monitor temperatures of potentially hazardous foods to ensure safety and follow the guidance of Council's Environmental Health officers." Ms Contini said.
Council officers have been in regular contact with local business operators and industry groups to support them and direct them to the latest economic stimulus information from the State and Federal Governments.
