Faster, Better Licensing And Registration

The BPC is improving how we deliver licensing and registration for building and plumbing practitioners in Victoria.

We've developed a new, modern accreditation system in consultation with industry. It will reduce wait times for most applicants while strengthening the integrity of Victoria's building and plumbing sector.

What's changing

We're simplifying the accreditation process by:

  • removing face‑to‑face interviews and scheduled exams
  • introducing online, dynamic exams developed with the Australian Council for Educational Research and other experts
  • significantly reducing the amount of documentation required
  • applying a risk‑based assessment model that:
    • provides an early decision where an application does not meet requirements
    • fast‑tracks low‑risk applications.

These improvements are already being rolled out for Domestic Builder Unlimited registration applicants. They will be phased in for all other licence and registration classes throughout the year.

Licensing and registering Victoria's building and plumbing practitioners is one of the BPC's core functions. It ensures practitioners have the right skills, knowledge and experience to deliver safe, compliant buildings.
