Overnight police responded to a report of a single vehicle crash in a remote area of North East Arnhem Land approximately 100km from Nhulunbuy, Northern Territory Police say
Acting Commander Warren Jackson of Northern Command confirmed that a 23-year-old female was killed as a result.
"This is the second tragic event of this nature in as many days and it will have a shattering effect on many communities across the region particularly only days from Christmas" Acting Commander Jackson said.
Investigations into the cause of the crash are continuing with members of the Major Crash Investigation Unit travelling to the area.
The road toll sits at 49 compared to 30 at the same time last year.
