Fatal crash at Interlaken, TAS

An 84 year old woman from New Norfolk died at the scene of a two vehicle crash on Interlaken Road at Interlaken on the 11th day of September 2016.  The crash occurred about 1.20pm, Tasmania Police say.

The deceased was a front seat passenger in a grey Nissan X-Trail which was being driven in a westerly direction by her husband, a 75 year old man also from New Norfolk.

Approximately 20kms west of the Midland Highway a head-on crash occurred between the X-Trail and a blue Toyota Hi-Lux flat tray utility which was being driven by a 17 year old male from Mangalore.

The driver of the X-Trail suffered injuries and was transported from the scene by rescue helicopter.  He was later admitted to the Royal Hobart Hospital.  A teenage male passenger in the Hi-Lux was transported by road ambulance to the Oatlands Medical Centre.  He was suffering shock.  The driver of the Hi-Lux wasn’t injured.

The road was closed to traffic for a number of hours whilst investigations were made.

Crash investigators would like to speak to any person who may have witnessed the crash or seen either vehicle prior to the collision.
