An investigation is underway after a fatal crash on the M1 in the Tweed Shire this morning.
About 9.30am (Monday 11 August 2025), emergency services were called to the M1 at Mooball – about 13km north of Mullumbimby – following reports of a crash.
At the scene, police were told several vehicles had collided with a man in the southbound lanes of the motorway. The man died at the scene and is yet to be formally identified.
Officers attached to Tweed/Byron Police District have established a crime scene and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
The southbound lanes of the M1 have been closed and diversions are in place. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and delay non-essential travel.
