Police can confirm one person has died following a three-vehicle crash on the intersection of Mile Flat Road and State Highway 1 near Hampden in North Otago.
Emergency services were called around 2.15pm.
Despite the best efforts of emergency personnel, one person was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.
One other person has sustained critical injuries and are being treated at hospital. Two others have minor injuries.
The Serious Crash Unit attended the scene.
Circumstances around how the crash occurred is being investigated.
