Fatal crash near NSW and Victorian border

man has died after a crash near the town of Coomealla, on the New South Wales and Victorian border last night, NSW Police say.

About 7.30pm today, a Ford Falcon sedan was attempting to do a u-turn on the Silver City Highway, near Tallawalla Road.

The Ford was hit by a Holden Commodore sedan, which was travelling west on the Silver City Highway.

Emergency services attended the scene and the four occupants of the Ford and the driver of the Commodore, were taken to Mildura Base Hospital. The 55-year-old driver of the Ford had critical injuries and died.

The three passengers in the Ford have been treated for minor injuries.

The 77-year-old driver of the Commodore has suspected fractured ribs and remains in a stable condition.

A crime scene has been established and investigations are continuing.

A brief will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
