Fatal crashes - Central Desert and West Arnhem

Northern Territory Police have responded to two fatal crashes over the weekend.

On Sunday 23 August 2020, police attended a single vehicle crash approximately 160kms from Alice Springs. Police believe the driver of the vehicle had lost control on a bend in the road. A 39-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was confirmed deceased at the scene.

Three children, aged 9, 10 and 16, were conveyed to Alice Springs Hospital with the driver of the vehicle.

About 4:00pm, police attended another single vehicle crash approximately 82kms west of Maningrida. Initial reports suggest the vehicle had left the road and hit a tree. Emergency service crews attended however, sadly a 7-year-old girl died at the scene.

Two female adults and a 5-year-old child were conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital.

Detectives from the Major Crash Investigation Unit are travelling to the location this morning to determine the circumstances of the crash.

Reports will be prepared for the coroner.
