Fatal dog attack involving baby - Central Coast

A young baby has died as a result of a dog attack on the state's Central Coast.

About 2.20am today (Sunday 11 July 2021), emergency services responded to reports of a baby being mauled by a dog at a home on Jeffs Close, Kariong.

Officers from Brisbane Water Police District attended the scene where they performed CPR on the five-week-old baby boy. The officers were assisted a short time later by NSW Ambulance paramedics, however, the baby could not be revived and died at the scene.

Police established a crime scene and have commenced an investigation.

The dog, which is owned by the family, has been secured.

At the time of the incident the baby's parents were at the home. There were no other persons at the premises.

There are no suspicious circumstances and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
