Two Arrested After Daylight Car Theft in Putāruru

Police have arrested two people and referred two others to Youth Aid Services following offending in Putāruru last week.

The arrests came after a car was stolen on Taupo Street on Monday morning.

Putāruru Sergeant Mike Owen says information from the public and good Police work quickly led officers to the suspects.

"It was a brazen day-time theft of a motor vehicle from a public car park, but we had strong lines of enquiry which led to a quick resolution in holding all four offenders to account."

A 17-year-old from Putāruru faces several charges related to the offending. He is due to appear in Tokoroa Youth Court on 9 November. A 19-year-old Putāruru man was charged with unlawfully getting into a motor vehicle, and several other offences, and is due to appear in Tokoroa District Court on 19 November.

The two other alleged offenders have been referred to Youth Aid.

"Timely information plays a big factor in these outcomes, so we want to remind everyone to call 111 if you see suspicious or illegal activity, or make a report to 105 if it's after the fact," Sergeant Owen says.
