Police are investigating after a male was fatally stabbed in Caroline Springs this morning, Victoria Police say.
Emergency services were called to a Gourlay Road restaurant about 2.15am following reports of an altercation.
Upon arrival, they located a man with stab wounds.
Paramedics attempted to treat the man at the scene but he died shortly afterwards.
He is yet to be formally identified.
It is believed the offender/s fled the scene shortly after the incident.
Homicide Squad detectives are en route to the scene.
Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the incident is urged to call Crime Stoppers.
