Police are investigating a fatal traffic crash in which two people have died on the Kennedy Highway at Davies Creek, near Mareeba this morning, Queensland Police say.
Initial information indicates just before 7.30am a semi-trailer and a truck were involved in a collision on the highway.
As a result of the crash, the vehicles caught fire with the two drivers declared deceased at the scene.
The Kennedy Highway remains closed and is expected to be for some time.
Traffic coming from Mareeba will not be able to get through to Kuranda and motorists should delay travel or seek alternate routes until further notice.
Forensic Crash Unit investigations continue into the incident.
