The City of Perth Council met on Tuesday 24 and Wednesday 25 February. The following decisions were made:
New plans guiding future of Perth's city centre
This month, Council endorsed two important documents that together, set the direction for Perth's future. The first, Shaping Perth City Centre - Towards 2036 and Beyond, is a bold new framework to guide growth and economic vitality in Perth's City Centre.
Developed in collaboration with internationally renowned urban strategy and design firm Gehl, the framework sets out a vision for a more vibrant, connected and climate-resilient city centre. It also directly informs our newly endorsed Draft Perth Capital City Plan - Towards 2036 and Beyond.
This overarching strategic blueprint was shaped by input from more than 2,000 community members, stakeholders and staff. Now, we're inviting the wider community to provide feedback on the Draft Plan.
Together, these plans ensure we're planning confidently for a growing capital city that is liveable, prosperous and sustainable.
Draft Station Precincts Improvement Plan – Claisebrook Station
Council has endorsed a submission to the Western Australian Planning Commission (WAPC) regarding the draft Station Precincts Improvement Plan.
The WAPC's Plan identifies 10 metropolitan train stations as priority precincts for coordinated planning and development, with Claisebrook Station included among them.
The City's submission seeks to strengthen connectivity and integration within the precinct, consider changes to plan boundaries, build on existing planning work, plan for appropriate community infrastructure and maintain strong collaboration with the State Government.
Activating Perth Bowling and Recreation Club
The City has approved a new lease for the Perth Bowling and Recreation Club, supporting its continued presence in East Perth while strengthening activation of the surrounding precinct.
The agreement provides for an initial five-year lease term to provide opportunity for the club and City to co-invest in some much needed upgrades and improvements with two additional one-year options exercisable at the City's discretion.
As part of the lease, the Club will be required to regularly activate the premises in a way that contributes positively to the vitality, safety and amenity of the wider area.
The City will continue exploring long-term opportunities to develop the site for broader community benefit, while working to accommodate the Club's future within East Perth.

Now in its fourth year, Lightscape has become a winter highlight on Perth's major events calendar. The five-year event series, which began in 2023, transforms the iconic Kings Park and Botanic Gardens into a breathtaking 1.8km illuminated trail for ticketholders to explore after dark.
