The McGowan Government is disappointed that the Morrison Government's Underwriting New Generation Investments program failed to shortlist any Western Australian projects.
This program aims to reduce wholesale electricity prices and improve reliability by increasing supply.
The Federal Government received 66 proposals from across the National Electricity Market and Western Australia, including coal, gas, pumped hydro and renewables plus storage projects.
Federal Energy Minister Angus Taylor announced on February 1, 2019 that 12 projects had been shortlisted - four projects in South Australia, three in New South Wales, two in Victoria, two in Queensland and one in Tasmania.
As stated by Energy Minister Bill Johnston:
"Once again the Federal Morrison Government has failed to consider Western Australia, indicating just how east coast centric they are.
"It's unfair that Western Australians could be missing out on an opportunity to reduce their power bills.
"The Underwriting New Generation Investments program intends to run for four years, the McGowan Government urges the Federal Government to not discriminate against Western Australian projects in future rounds."
