Federal government stepping up to save jobs

Business Council of Australia

The federal government's assistance for Victorians plunged into their fifth lockdown will give people some much needed reassurance, Business Council chief executive Jennifer Westacott said.

"The government continues to stand by the states and in doing so is standing by Australian workers and businesses.

"The federal government has been willing to respond to changing circumstances so businesses can going and keep people in jobs - this gives the Australian economy the capacity to bounce back.

"The cost sharing requirements designed by the commonwealth will ensure that every worker and business across the country has the certainty about the support they'll get if it is needed.

"While we deal with new outbreaks our focus must always be on learning from our experience and getting the systems in place to prevent these lockdowns in the future.

"Vaccination is our ticket back to normality, so the business community are working closely with governments to ensure we're ready to get people protected quickly once the supply is available."
