Federation To Elect New Youth Council

Federation Youth Council Join Now

Applications are open for the Federation Youth Council (FYC). Young people aged 12 – 25 years who live, work or study in a town within the Federation Council and who are passionate about advocating for issues that affect them are encouraged to apply.

Nine young people from across the Federation Council area will be recruited for a one-year term to provide advice to the Council. The Youth Council will work with Council to define priority areas, and implement projects and events.

"The Youth Council is the official 'youth voice' of Federation, and plays a vital role in helping Council understand what issues are important to local young people," Mayor Cheryl Cook said. "This is a great opportunity for young people to gain a range of new skills and develop their leadership capabilities, all while helping to improve outcomes for youth in their communities."

Mayor Cook added, "Every young person can bring value to the Youth Council, I encourage everyone aged between 12 and 25 years to visit the Council website to find out more about how to apply."

Federation Youth Council is an advisory committee of Federation Council and provides a platform for young people to voice their perspectives and contribute to Council decision-making processes on issues that affect them and other young people in our community.

The Federation Youth Council meet once a month, engaging with guest speakers from within council and external organisations and also manage their own self-guided community projects, events and activities.

Applications are open until 5pm, Friday 12 September, 2025 and can be completed online
