South Temiskaming Community Futures Development Corporation (STCFDC)

$1,600,000

An investment of $1.6 million will enable the South Temiskaming Community Futures Development Corporation to continue to support the creation of new small and medium-size enterprises (SME) and assist existing SMEs through its business counselling and access to capital services. Specifically, the funding will support the ongoing operations of the organization for the next five years.

The STCFDC is one of 24 Community Futures Development Corporations (CFDCs) in Northern Ontario funded by FedNor to provide financing, mentoring and development services to local entrepreneurs and businesses, as well as economic development planning support to communities. CFDCs are community-based, not-for-profit organizations run by volunteer boards and staffed by experienced business and economic development professionals.

Northern Ontario Farm Innovation Alliance (NOFIA)

$390,611

A FedNor investment of $333,034 will enable NOFIA to grow the region's innovation ecosystem leading to business expansion, innovation, exports, job creation, and the growth of the regional agricultural sector. Guided by its industry-based committee, NOFIA will work with farmers, business associations, post-secondary institutions, private and social enterprises, communities and SMEs to promote innovation and expand the agricultural and agri-food sector across Northern Ontario.

A contribution of $31,500 provided through FedNor's Youth Internship Initiative will allow NOFIA to hire a Communication/Special Events Coordinator to assist in the planning and execution of various activities and events, including the coordination of a Northeastern Ontario agricultural conference, research projects, newsletters and coordination of the FarmNorth.com website.

NOFIA will also receive an investment of $26,077 to help co-ordinate a 15-20 person Northern Ontario delegation to attend the 2019 Canadian Beef Industry Conference in London, Ont., to promote and showcase Northern Ontario's agricultural sector. This FedNor funding will assist with delegate travel, event and facility costs, as well as the development of tradeshow, promotional and marketing materials.

Temiskaming Shores and Area Chamber of Commerce (TSACC)

$31,500

A FedNor investment of $31,500 will enable the Temiskaming Shores and Area Chamber of Commerce to recruit a youth intern to assist with communications and technology priorities. Under the supervision and mentorship of the Executive Director, the intern will help promote area businesses, services, attractions and events. As part of its responsibilities, the intern will help develop a new website, help implement Microsoft Office 365, develop a social media strategy, and help SMEs more effectively promote themselves through traditional and emerging technologies.
