Feedback wanted on Botanic Gardens Master Plan

The Cairns Botanic Gardens precinct has been transformed into one of Cairns' premier destinations over the past 15 years.

Now Council is calling on the community to have its say on possible improvements as part of a its review of the Cairns Botanic Gardens Master Plan.

Cairns Mayor Bob Manning said the original Cairns Botanic Gardens Master Plan was adopted in 2005 and much of the plan had been implemented.

"The work completed out of the 2005 Cairns Botanic Gardens Master Plan has been significant, including the realignment of Collins Avenue and of course the creation of the iconic Visitor's Centre," Cr Manning said.

"We have engaged consultants to undertake a review and update the plan, and we want the community to have input into this process."

Division 7 Councillor Max O'Halloran encouraged all residents and visitors to have their say on how they use the area and what improvements could be added to the current plan.

"We want to know the community's views on what is great and what needs changing, as well as ideas to inform the future vision for the area," Cr O'Halloran said.

"The review will look at the connection with the Arrow walking tracks, however, the tracks themselves are not included in this study."
