Female motorcycle rider dies at Crystal Creek

A motorcycle rider has died following a crash with a school bus in the state's north.

About 4pm today (Wednesday 14 September 2022), emergency services were called to Numinbah Road, Crystal Creek – about 5km north-west of North Arm – after reports two motorcyclists were travelling east when one rider allegedly crossed to the incorrect side of the road and collided with a school bus.

The rider – a female believed to be aged in her 50s – was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics, however she died at the scene; she is yet to be formally identified.

The second rider was uninjured.

14 school children who were onboard the bus at the time of the crash were also uninjured.

The male bus driver – believed to be in his 40s – was uninjured and taken for mandatory testing.

Numinbah Road remains closed at Chilcotts Road; with local traffic diversions in place.

Officers from Tweed/Byron Police District have established a crime scene and have commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
