Ferguson's Housing Dashboard disaster

Tasmanian Labor

Housing Dashboard data for July has revealed the worsening situation facing Tasmanian families on the public housing waitlist.

Shadow Housing Minister Anita Dow said the updated dashboard data for July has shown it's getting harder for Tasmanian families to get a roof over their head.

"The updated dashboard numbers are simply unacceptable with the average yearly time to house priority applicants growing to 59.2 weeks," Ms Dow said.

"Couple this with the fact that almost 100 families have joined the 4,240 strong queue on the Housing Register and you have an absolutely dire situation."

Ms Dow said Housing Minister Michael Ferguson had once again chosen to spin his way out of bad results.

"It is all well and good for Minister Ferguson to put out press releases spruiking the government's housing commitments, but how many will he actually deliver?

"Leading up to the election the Liberals promised $280 million for social housing, yet in this week's Budget they have only pledged $90 million over the next four years.

"The Minister needs to start taking the housing portfolio seriously, thousands of Tasmanians are relying on him."
