Ferguson's Huge Budget Gap Remains Unresolved, 22 March 2024

Tas Labor

Michael Ferguson still hasn't come clean on the massive black hole revealed in his election costings.

The Liberals have proposed more than $1.7 billion of new spending, which will all be borrowed money, but have failed to account for up to $240 million of interest repayments on the extra debt.

If Mr Ferguson has his way, the Budget will be plunged into over $8 billion worth of debt.

When the Liberals were first elected 10 years ago, Tasmania had no net debt.

But 10 years later, a decade of Liberal mismanagement has left Tasmania's finances in the worst shape they have ever been.

The numbers don't lie. Michael Ferguson is in no place to give lectures about financial management.
