Festive spirit to bring Darwin alive

Darwin City Council

City of Darwin is spreading the festive cheer across Darwin with the release of its annual Christmas of program of events.

In partnership with Activate Darwin, City of Darwin will kick off festivities this Saturday from 5pm with the city's newest festive event, the Christmas Pageant.

When the pageant procession reaches Raintree Park, people can follow Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis and the Darwin City Brass Band through the Smith Street Mall to join in the lighting of the City of Darwin Christmas tree.

Mr Vatskalis said the lighting of the Christmas tree had been part of City of Darwin's festive season program of events since the 1970s.

"City of Darwin brings the festive cheer to our community each year, and this year is no different," Mr Vatskalis said.

"Our Christmas in Darwin program has plenty of variety for families, including popular highlights like Santa's Village, which opens next to Raintree Park on 2 December.

"Santa's Village is a great place for kids to enjoy free activities, and most importantly, get their photo taken with Santa and discuss their Christmas wish list.

City of Darwin is bringing a range of fantastic Christmas events to Darwin's suburbs, including:

  • Karama Family Fun Fair, in partnership with The Hon Ngaree Ah Kit MLA, at Karama Shopping Plaza on 10 December
  • Casuarina Cinema Christmas Party, supported by Casuarina Square, on 17 December
  • Santa's Fun on Wheels and Carols by the Sea on the Nightcliff foreshore on 23 December.

City of Darwin also continues its support of the Darwin Carols by Candlelight at the Garden's Amphitheatre on Sunday 4 December.
