The Leeton Shire Council Financial Sustainability Advisory Committee (FSAC) held its inaugural meeting on Saturday, 11 October 2025, at the Council Chambers, coinciding with Professor Joseph Drew's second visit to Leeton.

The meeting focused on introductions and roles and guiding principles before progressing to the first proposition outlined in the University of Newcastle's Financial Sustainability Report for Leeton Shire Council. The Minutes of the meeting, along with the Committee's first recommendations, will be tabled at Council's October Ordinary Meeting.

Chaired by Professor Joseph Drew, the FSAC comprises ten community members, three councillors and two Council staff. Its purpose is to examine the findings of the University of Newcastle's report and pursue its recommendations with careful consideration of Leeton Shire's unique values, priorities and financial constraints.

While the Committee provides valuable independent analysis and guidance, it does not hold decision-making functions. Any advice or findings from the FSAC will be presented to the elected Council for consideration, deliberation and final determination.

Professor Drew said he was encouraged by the energy and commitment shown by members during the inaugural meeting.

"It was heartening to see such constructive dialogue and shared purpose from the outset," Professor Drew said.

"Leeton is fortunate to have community members and councillors willing to engage deeply with complex financial and strategic issues. This kind of civic-minded collaboration is exactly what will help ensure that Leeton Shire remains resilient and prosperous long into the future."

The next FSAC meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, 21 October 2025, and will be held remotely.
