Finland National Day 6 December

Department of State

On behalf of the United States of America, I extend warm wishes to Finland on the celebration of its 106th anniversary of independence.

Finland stands as a cherished and enduring partner, buttressed by the shared pillars of democracy, freedom, and the rule of law. Our partnership is a testament to the strength derived from these fundamental principles.

This year holds particular significance for our relationship, as Finland acceded to the Washington Treaty and became a NATO Ally. NATO stands strong and united - ready to defend our core principles and further fortified with the 31st Ally by our side.

Finland's steadfast leadership in supporting Ukraine is a model for our close cooperation. We stand fully united as we provide Ukraine with the assistance it needs to defend itself from Russian aggression.

As the American people join in celebrating Finland's Independence Day, we extend our heartfelt wishes for joy and prosperity to all Finns. May our continued collaboration pave the way for a bright and prosperous future for both our nations.
