Last night (Thursday 20 June) the Victorian Government's Fire Services Reform and Presumptive Cancer Rights bill passed through the parliament.
Under the new presumptive cancer laws eligible career and volunteer firefighters will have presumptive rights to compensation for 12 types of cancer for the first time.
It's a crucial recognition of the sacrifices they have made through their service to our community.
The legislation also establishes CFA as a volunteer-based firefighting organisation, while creating Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV).
These reforms have been a long time coming and we are glad to have a clear mandate to build a stronger CFA with a focus on volunteering and serving our communities.
CFA has a long and proud history and our determination to prevent loss of life and property for Victorians will not change.
We look forward to working with the government and our emergency sector partners to continue our mission of protecting the community.
