Firearm and ammunition found during vehicle search in Nowra

A man will face court today after he was charged with firearms offences following a vehicle stop in the state’s south, NSW Police say.

About 6pm yesterday (Thursday 16 November 2017), police stopped a car on Quickmatch Street, East Nowra, after he was allegedly seen driving unsafely.

Officers subsequently searched the vehicle allegedly locating a semi-automatic rifle and ammunition.

The items were seized and the 19-year-old male driver and 27-year-old male passenger were arrested and taken to Nowra Police Station.

The older man was later charged with possess shortened firearm, possess unauthorised prohibited firearm and possess ammunition without licence.

He was refused bail and will appear in Nowra Local Court today (Friday 17 November 2017).

The younger man was released from police custody without charge.
