Firearm and cash seized from speedster in Altona North

Police have seized a loaded firearm and a large quantity of cash from a speeding driver intercepted in Altona North on 17 May.

A BMW was detected by police travelling 160km/h in a 60km/h zone on Barnes Road about 6.20pm.

Police intercepted the car containing two male occupants and located a loaded handgun and a large quantity of cash on the driver.

The handgun and cash were seized and the car impounded for a cost of $932.46 cents.

A 37-year-old St Albans man was arrested and charged with speed dangerous, commit an indictable offence whilst on bail, handle proceeds of crime and numerous firearm offences.

The man was remanded in custody to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court at a later date.

A second man was cleared of any wrong doing.
