Firearms incident at Elizabeth Park

Police have arrested two men following a firearms incident at Elizabeth Park.

About 5.15pm on Tuesday 8 August, police were called to Midway Road after reports of two men assaulting another man near Seaborough Road. It was reported that one man was in possession of a firearm which was discharged towards the victim.

A 23-year-old man sustained minor facial injuries as a result of the assault and did not require medical treatment.

Patrols set up cordons to search for the two suspects and located them both in a nearby home. The two men were arrested without incident.

A 28-year-old man from Elizabeth Park and a 40-year-old man from Elizabeth East were both charged with aggravated robbery and discharge firearm to injure/annoy or frighten a person.

The 28-year-old man was further charged with possessing a firearm without a licence, contravening a firearms prohibition order and hinder police.

Both men have been refused bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court today.

Northern District CIB conducted an extensive search of the premises and located what is believed to be the firearm used in the incident.

Investigations are continuing.
