Firefighters battled a building fire in Foster Street at Sale overnight on Saturday 3 June.

CFA was called to the scene at 12.37am where they found the shop well alight.

Firefighters worked hard to save the adjoining buildings which received minor damage.

The main building was completely destroyed as a result of the fire.

The incident was brought under control at 3.14am and declared safe around 5.30am, however some crews remained on scene well into the following day.

CFA had 20 vehicles on scene with support from FRV crews.

District 10 Commander Ian Bounds said the incident was a successful multi-agency response and crews did an incredible job containing the fire to the main building.

"I want to thank VicPol, FRV and Wellington Shire for their support and assistance," Commander Bounds said.

"I'm also grateful to some local businesses who provided food and other support throughout the incident.

"It was a great team effort by everyone involved."

The cause was investigated and has been deemed undetermined due to the amount of damage to the building. It is not believed to be suspicious.
