Young Corangamite Shire residents have an opportunity to learn potentially lifesaving first aid and CPR skills for free.
Council and the State Government's Engage! youth funding program are providing a one-day course at the Killara Centre in Camperdown on Tuesday 8 July.
"Accidents can happen anywhere - on the farm, the sporting field or court, at the pool or beach, even if you're looking after children or an elderly family member," Council's Coordinator Community Engagement and Development Bec Reedman said.
"This course is perfect for beginners or anyone needing a refresher.
"Successful completion will result in a nationally accredited HLTAID011 certificate and credit for further vocational education."
The course will include:
- How to use an EpiPen and a defibrillator;
- using a workplace first aid kit;
- applying wound dressings and bandages;
- treating shock;
- using personal protective equipment (PPE); and
- filling out workplace injury and incident report forms.
Ms Reedman encouraged anyone who was interested to apply early as there was pre-course reading.
"Bookings are essential and priority will be giving to people aged 15 - 25 years," she said.
"If you don't have one, you will need to get a Unique Student Identifier (USI) number before you register.
"Once enrolled you will get a copy of HLTAID011 Provide First Aid Course Learner Guide."
Refreshments and lunch will be provided.
