Wodonga Council has released its first progress update on the Council Plan 2025 - 2029 and the Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan 2025 - 2029, providing a snapshot of work under way to deliver on key community priorities.
The update highlights steady progress across a wide range of initiatives supporting community connection, economic activity, infrastructure investment and regional collaboration.
Wodonga Council's Mayor Michael Gobel said the mid-year report shows positive early progress across a broad range of community priorities.
"From community programs and local infrastructure to regional advocacy, this update shows the breadth of work underway to deliver on the priorities our community helped shape," said Cr Gobel.
"While many of these initiatives are long-term in nature, the progress to date reflects steady implementation across programs, services and partnerships that support a thriving and connected community."
The report covers Quarter 1 and Quarter 2 of the 2025-2026 financial year (July to December 2025). While the reporting period spans six months, delivery of the plan did not commence immediately on July 1, with an early focus on closing out the previous plans, developing the new strategic plans, and allowing for the Lake Hume Ward by-election.
At the mid-year point of the first year of delivery, overall progress across both plans sits at 41.5 per cent, with no actions currently identified as overdue or at risk, reflecting steady implementation across council priorities.
Over the reporting period, the council progressed a broad range of initiatives aligned to four key themes - liveable and connected communities, thriving local economy, resilient infrastructure and environment and effective leadership and sustainable future.
Key highlights include:
- Sign on to the Safe Local Roads and Streets Program to improve school crossing safety;
- Over 43,000 people participating in recreational activities at Baranduda Fields Sporting Precinct;
- Over 19,000 attendees at council events including Seniors Celebrations, North East Food and Wine Festival, Citizenship Ceremonies and more;
- More than 191 registered businesses serviced by the Environmental Health team;
- East Kinchington Road East Residential Precinct Development Plan approval;
- Pearce Street footpath project, connecting Beechworth Road to Victoria Cross Parade, has been designed;
- Adoption of the Advocacy Plan 2025 - 2029; and,
- Active engagement with Hume Regional Local Government Network, Regional Partnerships, Regional Cities Victoria and Regional Capitals Australia.
Many of these initiatives are ongoing and designed to deliver long-term outcomes through continuous service delivery, partnerships and staged program implementation.
The full report is available in the March Ordinary Council Meeting agenda, with a two-page snapshot also available for those wanting a quick look at the key highlights.
