Officers from the Cairns City Police Beat charged a 56-year-old man with weapons offences during patrols of the CBD on 25 July.
Around 9.30pm, the man was subject to a scan under Jack's Law on Abbott Street.
Police allegedly located a makeshift flail and pair of scissors.
He was charged with unlawful possession of a category M weapon (flail) and possession of a knife in a public place (scissors).
He was issued with a notice to appear and is scheduled to appear before the Cairns Magistrates Court on 12 August.
Between 18 July 2025 and 21 July 2026, Far North police have scanned 12,540 people and located 119 weapons.
Cairns City Patrol Group Inspector Jamie Horn said police have no tolerance for weapons in the Cairns CBD.
"We know that violence involving knives and other weapons can have devastating consequences for not only those involved, but their families, friends, and the wider community," Inspector Horn said.
"Everyone deserves to be safe whether they are living, working or visiting our wonderful city, and we will continue proactive activities under Jack's Law to remove unlawful weapons from our streets."
