KATHERINE BRIDGE MAY REACH 18.00 M WITH MAJOR FLOODING OVERNIGHT FRIDAY INTO SATURDAY
MAJOR FLOODING ABOVE THE MARCH 2000 FLOOD LEVEL OCCURRING AT NITMILUK CENTRE
Rapid river level rises are occurring along Katherine River and its tributaries. Major flooding is occurring at Nitmiluk Centre, where the river level is above the March 2000 flood level (7.40 m) and rising. Major flooding above the March 2000 flood level is also occurring at Katherine Bridge, with rises to 18.00 m likely overnight Friday into Saturday.
Further rainfall is expected for the remainder of Friday and into Saturday, which may cause higher river level rises. This situation is being closely monitored and this warning will be updated as required.
A Flood Watch is current for parts of the Bonaparte, North West Coastal and Carpentaria Coastal River catchments. A severe weather warning is current for heavy rainfall in the Daly and parts of Arnhem districts.
Katherine River Gorge Road:
Major flooding is occurring at Katherine River Gorge Road.
The Katherine River at Nitmiluk Centre is currently at 8.73 m and rising, with major flooding. The Katherine River at Nitmiluk Centre may peak near 9.00 m overnight Friday into Saturday, with major flooding.
Katherine Town:
Major flooding is occurring at Katherine Town.
The Katherine River at Katherine Bridge is currently at 17.91 m and rising, with major flooding. The Katherine River at Katherine Bridge is likely to reach around 18.00 m overnight Friday into Saturday, with major flooding. Further rises are possible with forecast rain.
