As part of its emergency preparedness efforts, Campaspe Shire Council will be conducting a flood barrier deployment training exercise in the Rochester civic precinct - Town Hall, Community House, Council service centre and library - in early March. The exercise will begin deployment of the barriers on 4 March, followed by pack-down of the barriers on 5 March.
The installation and removal of the barriers will be undertaken by a 10-person crew and will require some minor disruptions to traffic, pedestrians and parking. Impacted premises have been notified of the works.
Campaspe Shire Council Mayor Daniel Mackrell said the exercise was an important part of Council's commitment to emergency preparedness, and longer-term the barriers would be stored at Council's Rochester depot.
"This exercise forms part of our flood preparedness initiatives and will assist operational staff in safely deploying the AquaFence flood barrier system - which will be stored at Rochester - to help protect Council's community assets in the event of a future emergency."
During the deployment exercise, sections of the footpath adjacent to the civic precinct will be temporarily closed with diversion signage in place, and some parking spaces in the immediate vicinity of the works may be unavailable. Council plant and vehicles including a forklift and light machinery will be operating in the area.
"We appreciate your patience while this important activity is undertaken," Cr Mackrell said.
Any queries regarding the emergency preparedness exercise should be directed to Council on 1300 666 535.
