Flood related death, Mount Ossa

A 31-year-old Calen woman has died in floodwaters at Mount Ossa, north of Mackay, this morning (Wednesday May 11).

At approximately 5am emergency services were called to reports a vehicle with three occupants had been swept into floodwaters at a causeway on Surprise Creek Road.

Two passengers, a 50-year-old Mount Charlton man and a 30-year-old Mount Pelion woman, were able to get free of the vehicle.

The 50-year-old man suffered a laceration to his head.

The 30-year-old woman did not suffer any physical injuries.

Both were transported in a stable condition to Mackay Base Hospital.

A search and rescue operation was launched and at approximately 8am the 31-year-old woman was located deceased in the vehicle.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances of the incident.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
