MidCoast Council will progress three recommendations following a review of its floodplain risk management studies and plans.
"After the devastating 2021 and 2022 floods, Council obtained funding from the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, Environment and Water to conduct a review of our flood management plans," said Council's Director of Infrastructure and Engineering Services, Mr Robert Scott.
Council's consultant Rhelm undertook the review.
The report was on public exhibition for community feedback from 27 March - 5 May 2026. Eight public submissions were received, and a further addition to one submission was also considered.
The Floodplain Management Reference Group also contributed advice and feedback during the project.
As a result of the review, Council will:
- Seek grant funding to complete the feasibility study for the establishment of Voluntary House Raising and Voluntary Purchase Schemes
- Seek grant funding to install additional flood gauges at Stroud, Nabiac and Harrington
- Update the Flood Warning Levels and emergency response information.
