Flying Squad Arrests 30 on 88 Charges in Townsville

The State Flying Squad (SFS) deployed to Townsville from October 20 to 28 as part of a surge of police assisting local officers to crack down on crime.

SFS officers charged 13 adults with 50 charges including drug offences, bail breach and other offences, and 17 young people with 38 charges including unlawful entry, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, breach of bail, serious assault and other offences.

Officers charged a 30-year-old Vincent man with a series of vehicle, fraud and domestic violence offences after executing a search warrant at a Gosper Street address in Vincent, Townsville.

The man was charged with four counts of driving without a licence, two counts each of evading police, fraud (dishonestly making off without paying), stealing and one count each of contravening a DVO, driving an uninsured vehicle, dangerous operation of a vehicle, unregistered vehicle and breach of bail.

He was remanded in custody and is expected to appear next in Townsville Magistrates Court on November 21.

A 46-year-old Vincent man was also present during the execution of the search warrant was arrested and charged with one count each of failure to appear and failing to dispose properly of a syringe or needle.

Detective Inspector Joe Nixon said the Squad's ongoing presence has had a significant impact on improving community safety.

"The SFS provide local police with extra capability to conduct investigative operations, increase police visibility and support victims," Detective Inspector Nixon said.

"The extra support on the frontlines helps make the community safer and we'll continue to deploy wherever we're needed most."
