Food Resilience Strategy Consultation Concludes

Feedback from Tasmanian communities and the broader food relief sector will inform the Tasmanian Government's upcoming renewed Food Resilience Strategy.

Minister for Community Services, Roger Jaensch, said recent consultation on the Strategy reflects the consensus that food security is about dignity, equity, and the ability of individuals, families, and communities to thrive.

"The development of the Strategy is part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future and represents an opportunity to tackle food insecurity in a more systemic and sustainable way," Minister Jaensch said.

"The Strategy aims to shift the focus from short-term food relief towards long-term food resilience by addressing the root causes of food insecurity and building a cohesive, equitable, and climate-resilient food system."

The consultation captured the lived experiences, insights and perspectives of people working across the food system: from government, service providers, schools, not-for-profits, and community members.

People with lived experience brought deep insight into the real-world impact of food insecurity, and cross-sector engagement revealed the opportunity for strong partnerships across sectors, including producers, retailers, and the hospitality industry, with all playing a significant role in the food system.

The new Food Resilience Strategy will be released later this year and will guide and shape Tasmania's approach to food resilience now and into the future.
