Sport Integrity Australia today acknowledges the decision of Football Australia to impose a three-year ban on athlete Evan Tsakos for the presence, use, possession (2 separate violations), and attempted use of prohibited substances.
Mr Tsakos returned an Adverse Analytical Finding (AAF) from an in-competition doping control test on 19 January 2020 for the Presence of prohibited substances, namely Ibutamoren (MK677) and Ostarine (Enobosarm).
It was also determined that:
- Mr Tsakos Used prohibited substances, namely Ibutamoren (MK677), Ostarine (Enobosarm), Stanozolol and/or GW1516, in the period in or about 1 January 2020 to 19 January 2020;
- Mr Tsakos was in Possession of prohibited substances namely, Ibutamoren (MK677), Ostarine (Enobosarm), Stanozolol and/or GW1516 in the period in or about 12 December 2019 to 12 March 2020;
- Mr Tsakos Attempted to use a prohibited substance namely, Ibutamoren (MK677) and/or LGD-4033, in the period in or about 27 November 2019 to 4 March 2020.
- Mr Tsakos was in Possession of a prohibited substance namely Ibutamoren (MK677) and/or LGD-4033, in the period in or about 27 November 2019 to 4 March 2020.
All of the above substances are prohibited in and out-of-competition.
Mr Tsakos is ineligible to participate in any sports that have adopted a World Anti-Doping Code compliant anti-doping policy until 13 March 2023.
Additional information on the prohibited substance
Anabolic agents pose many threats to an athlete's health and some side effects may include an increase in blood pressure and cholesterol levels which can lead to heart disease. Liver disease and infertility can also result from the use of these agents.
It should be noted that a number of SARMs have associated health-risks, particularly for the heart and liver.
There are a number of health concerns for Class S2 Peptide Hormones, Growth Factors and Related Substances. Long-term studies in the use of growth hormone releasing peptides (GHRPs) have not been performed as the majority available on the internet have not been approved for human use. However, given that these peptides are used to release growth hormone, excessive amounts in healthy people may cause side effects like those observed in people with acromegaly, such as cardiovascular disease states.
GW1516, a S4 class Hormone and Metabolic Modulator, has been linked to the rapid development of cancer during trials on mice.
