Forensic experts conduct 3D scan at scene of shooting murder, NSW

Detectives investigating the fatal shooting of Walid ‘Wally’ Ahmad will be assisted by forensic experts to create a digital 3D representation of the Bankstown crime scene today, NSW Police say.

About 11.50am on Friday 29 April 2016, police from Bankstown Local Area Command were called to the car park of a shopping centre on Rickard Road, Bankstown, after reports of a shooting.

Officers located three people with injuries, including a 40-year-old man, who died at the scene.

He was formally identified as Walid Ahmad.


Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad established Strike Force Bindon to investigate Mr Ahmad’s murder.

As part of ongoing inquiries, strike force investigators and specialist officers from the Forensic and Technical Support Command are conducting a laser scan at the car park from 7.30am tomorrow.

The laser scan will produce 3D images of the crime scene, which will then be analysed with other exhibits to assist detectives with their inquiries.

This includes biometric measurements of people captured in CCTV to provide an accurate animation depicting the trajectory of the shooting.

Police are urging anyone with information that may assist Strike Force Bindon investigators is urged to call Crime Stoppers.
