Police have charged a former Catholic Priest in relation to alleged historical sexual and indecent assaults in the Maitland and Newcastle area, NSW Police say.
In 2014, detectives from Strike Force Georgiana commenced investigations into alleged child indecent assaults committed against three boys at a school in Merewether in the 1970s and a school in Cessnock in the late 1980s.
Following ongoing investigations, about 11am today, a 78-year-old man attended Ryde Police Station.
He was issued a Future Court Attendance Notice for six offences including three counts of indecent assault on male, two counts of sexual assault indecent act with person under 16 years, and attempted sexual intercourse with child between 10 and 16.
The man is due to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 27 April 2017.
