Former childcare worker charged with defrauding centre - Roselands

A woman has been charged with defrauding a community-operated childcare centre at Roselands of more than $70,000.

In February 2020, the finance team of the not-for-profit organisation allegedly identified discrepancies in their banking accounts.

A financial audit was conducted and identified banking discrepancies allegedly totalling $72,705, which occurred between March 2019 and February 2020.

Detectives from Campsie Police Area Command were notified and commenced an investigation.

Following extensive inquiries, a 35-year-old woman was arrested at Campsie Police Station just before 10am today (Wednesday 1 July 2020).

She was charged with larceny as bailee property value more than $15,000, and 19 counts of steal property as clerk/servant.

Police will allege in court that the woman, a former administrative employee, was accepting and retaining cash payment for childcare fees from parents.

The Prestons woman was granted conditional bail to appear at Burwood Local Court on Tuesday 28 July 2020.
