Former teacher arrested over child sex abuse of young student

A former teacher has been arrested following an investigation into child sex offences alleged to have occurred at a school in Sydney's south-west more than 40 years ago.

In 2017, detectives from Campsie Police Area Command commenced an investigation following allegations of sexual abuse at a primary school at Clemton Park in the early 1970s.

The allegations were raised at the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

Following extensive inquiries, detectives arrested a 67-year-old man at a home at Woolooware about 7.30am today (Wednesday 31 July 2019).

He was taken to Sutherland Police Station, where he is in the process of being charged.
