Works are underway on the beautiful sea life mural funded by MidCoast Arts Support Program.
The mural is a vibrant and culturally significant artwork that celebrates the rich marine life of the region while incorporating Indigenous storytelling and contemporary artistic elements.
Designed by local tattoo artist Geoff Deakin and Indigenous artist Jakaya Simon, the mural is shaping up to be a striking tribute to the ocean's beauty and its deep connection to the Worimi people.
Geoff Deakin is an established local artist who has completed other murals around Smiths Lake area and Jakaya Simon is an emerging Worimi female artist.
"The project supports the professional development of these two local artists providing them with a high-profile platform to showcase their talents," said Alex Mills, MidCoast Council's Manager Libraries, Community and Cultural Services.
The project aims to benefit local MidCoast residents, creating a vibrant and meaningful public artwork that enhances a popular beach area and fosters pride in place.
Visitors and tourists will enjoy a visually engaging landmark that reflects the region's unique coastal identity and culture.
This project is funded by MidCoast Council's Arts Support Program.
The Midcoast Arts Support Program is now in its second year and aims to enhance opportunities for artists and contribute to a thriving community.
