Four Arrested, 18 Bikes Seized in Operation Horizon

Four men have been arrested and a further 18 motorbikes have been seized as an investigation continues into a gathering at Mayfield last month.

About 1pm on Sunday 14 June 2026, police were called to a park on Ingall Street, Mayfield, following reports of a large gathering of people.

On arrival, police found between 150-200 people had gathered in the park, while a further 30-40 people were riding unregistered trail bikes in parkland and on surrounding streets. Streets were closed nearby, with traffic redirected due to safety concerns.

Police attached to Newcastle City Police District established Operation Horizon to investigate the incident.

Last month, four men were arrested and charged in relation to the incident. All four remain before the courts.

Following further inquiries, officers attached to Newcastle City Police District, Lake Macquarie Police District, the Dog Unit and the Northern Region Operations Support Group executed search warrants at homes in Fletcher, Wallsend, Lambton, North Lambton, Toronto, and Fullerton Cove yesterday (Tuesday 14 July 2026).

During the searches, police allegedly located and seized 18 motorbikes, helmets, clothing and electronics.

Four men – aged 18, 19, and two aged 21 – were arrested and taken to Waratah Police Station.

The 18-year-old man arrested in Adamstown was charged with six offences,

  • Riot
  • Three or more people use violence cause fear
  • Destroy or damage property (greater than $2000 and less than or equal to $5000)
  • Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous
  • Unlicensed for Class, Class C, R, LR or MR, and
  • Contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (Domestic).

He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 2 yesterday, where he was granted strict conditional bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 23 July 2026.

The 19-year-old man arrested in Toronto was charged with seven offences,

  • Riot
  • Three or more people use violence cause fear
  • Destroy or damage property (greater than $2000 and less than or equal to $5000)
  • Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous
  • Unlicensed for Class, Class C, R, LR or MR
  • Assault with intent to rob in company, and
  • Breach of bail.

He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 2 today (Wednesday 15 July 2026).

A 21-year-old man arrested in Fullerton Cove was charged with seven offences,

  • Riot
  • Three or more people use violence cause fear
  • Destroy or damage property (greater than $2000 and less than or equal to $5000)
  • Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous
  • Drive motor vehicle during disqualification period - 2nd+off
  • Intimidate police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm, and
  • Fail to comply digital evidence access order direction.

He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 2 today.

A 21-year-old man arrested in Lambton was charged with five offences,

  • Riot
  • Three or more people use violence cause fear
  • Destroy or damage property (greater than $2000 and less than or equal to $5000)
  • Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, and
  • Unlicensed for Class, Class C, R, LR or MR.

He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 2 yesterday, where he was granted strict conditional bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 30 July 2026.

A total of 25 unregistered motorbikes have been seized under Operation Horizon.

Inquiries into the gathering are continuing.
