Four firearms located in car, South Australia

Police have located a number of firearms after searching a car in Munno Para West this morning.

Just after 1am Friday 28 May Norther District patrols observed a black Holden SS Commodore sedan travelling through the back streets of Munno Para West. Checks revealed the car was baring stolen number plates.

Police followed the Commodore to Greenlea Court where it abruptly stopped and the driver fled on foot. Patrols chased the man and quickly arrested him nearby. Upon searching the car police allegedly located four firearms and ammunition:

-Loaded .22 Ruger pistol located in driver's door pocket with second magazine.

-Sawn-off over/under shotgun (not loaded).

-Sawn-off .22 bolt action rifle (not loaded).

-A .410 Boito shotgun (not loaded).

The driver, a 33-year-ol Modbury North man, has been charged four counts of possess unregistered firearm, possess firearm without licence, possess ammunition, driving disqualified and breach of bail. He was refused bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court today.

The passenger in the Commodore, a 26-year-old Modbury North woman, was also arrested and charged with four counts of possess unregistered firearm, possess firearm without licence, possess ammunition and breach of bail. She was refused bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court today.

Detectives from the Northern District CIB are investigating any links between this incident and the drive-by shooting at Elizabeth South on Thursday 27 May.
