The Lord Chancellor has reappointed the following non judicial members of the CJC for the terms shown below:
- Jo Hickman, solicitor member - 30 September 2020 to 29 September 2023;
- Ian Karet, another field of civil justice member- 15 October 2020 to 14 October 2023;
- Andrew Parker, insurer member - 11 September 2020 to 10 September 2023; and
- William Wood QC, Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) provider member - 11 September 2020 to 10 March 2022.
The CJC is an advisory body, established under the Civil Procedure Act 1997, to keep the civil justice system under review, consider its accessibility, fairness and efficiency, and look to its development. It makes recommendations and provides advice to the Lord Chancellor, the Judiciary, and Civil Procedure Rule Committee.
Biographies
Jo Hickman:
Jo Hickman is the Director of the Public Law Project (PLP). She was Head of Casework at PLP and a public law solicitor at Fisher Meredith LLP. She is a member of the Law Society Access to Justice Committee. Jo Hickman has not declared any political activity.
Ian Karet:
Ian Karet is a partner of Linklaters LLP specialising in Intellectual Property and Technology. He advises on a broad range of contentious and commercial matters. He is a Deputy High Court Judge and the Interim Chair of the Charity Commission. Ian Karet has not declared any political activity.
Andrew Parker:
Andrew Parker is Head of Strategic Litigation at DAC Beachcroft LLP advising insurers on emerging issues in insurance claims. A former member of the panels of assessors to Lord Justice Jackson's first and second Reviews of civil litigation costs, he was also formerly a member of the Civil Procedure Rule Committee and past president of the Forum of Insurance Lawyers. Andrew Parker has not declared any political activity.
William Wood QC:
William Wood QC is a barrister at Brick Court Chambers. He is one of the country's leading commercial mediators, and is the member representing the ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution) community and interest. He is vice-chair of the Judicial/ADR Liaison Committee. His professional practice involves complex and high-profile arbitrations and mediations in the UK and internationally. William Wood has not declared any political activity.
Appointments and re-appointments of non-judicial members to the CJC are regulated by the Commissioner for Public Appointments and comply with the Cabinet Office Governance Code on Public Appointments.
