Fourth Man Charged Over Looting At Taree

A man has been charged over allegedly being in possession of stolen items on the flood-affected Mid North Coast.

About 9.30am yesterday (Thursday 29 May 2025), officers attached to the Police Transport Command were conducting proactive patrols of Taree when they stopped a cyclist on Crescent Avenue.

A search of the cyclist's bags allegedly revealed several items suspected of being stolen including a credit card, business records, jewellery, and watches.

The 37-year-old man was arrested and taken to Taree Police Station where he was charged with six counts of goods in personal custody suspected being stolen, possess housebreaking implements, and rider not wear approved bicycle helmet/fitted/fastened.

He appeared before Taree Local Court yesterday (Thursday 29 May 2025), where he was formally refused bail to appear before the same court on Tuesday 3 June 2025.

Three other men – aged 20, 29 and 44 – that were charged with similar alleged offences this week remain before the courts.
