Free drop off at landfill sites, for eligible items

Swan Hill Rural City Council would like to remind residents that many items can be dropped off free-of- charge at landfill and transfer stations throughout the municipality.

Council's Strategic Waste Coordinator, Ron Gibbs, said that there were multiple recycling schemes operating out of landfill and transfer stations which allowed for items to be disposed of thoughtfully.

"Batteries, chemical containers, fluorescent tubes, residential lawn clippings, clean mulched green waste, e-waste, paint, recyclables, scrap metal, whitegoods, residential volumes of small rubble and used motor oil are all examples of what can be dropped off at no charge," Mr Gibbs said.

"Unfortunately, we are seeing an increase around the municipality of items being dumped - in particular white goods, and we'd like to reiterate that these items can be taken to your local landfill site or transfer station at absolutely no cost to you.

"We'd like to encourage everyone to dispose of their waste thoughtfully, and familiarise themselves with what can, in fact, be dropped off for free,' he added.
